In Maple Ridge in 2009 a 10 year old dog by the name of Max was finally seized from his owner for animal cruelty charges. The animal cruelty investigators found max tethered in his backyard with a massive ear infection, matted fur, and overgrown nails. Max needed surgery to also remove tumours off his eyelids and now has been adopted by new owners. Recently Max’s previous owner plead guilty to animal cruelty and was sentenced to three years without ownership of an animal and a fine of $300. I personally am horrified someone would just tie their dog up and leave it out in the yard all day, since I own a dog I do not understand why someone would want to own a dog if their intentions are to just ignore and leave the dog or animal alone. I think this issue affects Canadians because of our rules against animal cruelty and how a majority of Canadians feel about having a pet as one of the family. Canada and the media both take the side of Max for obvious reasons.
